Scientist, Immunohistochemistry

The role...

The mission of the Immuohistochemistry (IHC) team is to serve as a core provider of immunohistochemical analysis of cells and tissues in support of the Product Development and Production. Team members are responsible for delivery of thorough, high quality staining results within established service level agreements and continued monitoring of processes in order to decrease testing times.

This highly motivated Scientist is passionate about building a portfolio of best-in-class IHC validated antibodies to enable cutting edge research around the world. The successful team member will have the opportunity to devise creative testing strategies that leverage innovative testing models and utilize their expertise in tissue analysis to make and support key product release decisions. This individual will work with junior staff to train and develop skills and provide technical support to customers.

You'll have the opportunity to...

  • Design experiments to facilitate target-specific validation efforts in immunohistochemistry
  • Review staining results of junior team members and guide testing approaches
  • Continuously develop tissue interpretation skills and deep understanding of target biology to serve as an internal and external technical expert
  • Generate publication quality images to highlight target-specific validation and support commercial initiatives
  • Serve as an ambassador for CST through customer engagement opportunities
  • Support existing products through technical support
  • Strong scientific communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Who you are and what you bring to the team...

  • BS degree or MS degree in a biological science
  • BS degree, minimum of 8+ years previous hands on, relevant IHC and tissue interpretation experience or
  • MS degree, minimum of 5+ years previous hands on, relevant IHC and tissue interpretation experience
  • Extensive experience developing and optimizing manual and automated IHC assays
  • Familiarity with human and rodent histology
  • Broad knowledge of cellular markers
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities

Ideally, you have...

  • Ph.D. in a biological science
  • Previous experience with tissue imaging and whole slide scanning
  • Experience with Immunology and Cell Biology, including signal transduction pathways
  • Highly dependable and team-focused
  • Previous experience mentoring junior staff
  • Experience with Google Suite, Tableau, JIRA, and working with complex Excel files (building Excel macros), or other programming skills is a plus.

Physical Conditions/Physical Requirements...

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Frequently moves objects weighing up to 30 pounds across the lab for various needs
  • Work area can be filled with collaborative discussion
  • Work area may have noise from equipment (refrigerator, freezer, etc.)
  • Work environment conditions consist of both sitting and standing throughout the day.
  • May work with and be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials, pathogens, biohazardous human/animal tissue, cells, and fluids.
  • Precautions should be made to reduce the risk of repetitive stress injury (e.g. manual pipetting).
