SPRING AND SUMMER 2024 INTERNSHIP IN HEALTH POLICY AT A BOSTON NON-PROFIT

Boston-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which provides international leadership in groundbreaking prostate cancer programs in research, education, awareness and advocacy to improve patient care and reduce related health disparities, seeks a highly detail-oriented intern with strong computer skills. We are looking for a polished, highly organized internship candidate with strong communication skills and commitment to making a difference. Experience and/or interest in medical fields (e.g., biology, chemistry, medicine, public health) is preferred. 


 

The duties will include support of a major campaign in health care policy, creating a Massachusetts model of national leadership in prostate cancer care, research and equity. This campaign includes - 

  1. Programs and related events in medical education, public awareness, advocacy, research, and improving access of underserved individuals to high-quality care; and
  2. Management of the website, social media and databases. 


 

Specific projects include support for the -

  1. Pioneering state-wide clinical care equity program and related research (including data collection and analysis) to expedite access of under-served and vulnerable individuals (with the focus on Black, Hispanic and Latino populations) to the leading experts in high-quality prostate cancer care and support men during every step of their medical journey.  This program has been established and managed in collaboration with clinical experts from the Mass General Brigham of Harvard Medical School, University of Massachusetts School of Medicine, and other clinical and community partners, including NAACP New England Area Conference and Latino Health Insurance Program;
  2. Annual global medical conference and related “brain trust”, bringing together the key international opinion leaders and recognized as seminal in impacting the state of the art and future vision in precision care for prostate cancer:
  3. Securing speakers, and developing and finalizing scientific program;
  4. Coordinating Abstract Competition: Collection of abstracts, establishment of the peer review committee, online publications and selection of the winners for the final program;
  5. Summarizing and reviewing scientific presentations and related cutting-edge advances in patient care and research;
  6. Supporting development of the expert consensus and review paper on the emerging best clinical practices and research priorities;  
  7. Managing newsletters, website postings, social media and databases; 
  8. Support of the state advocacy campaign, including the Annual Prostate Cancer Awareness Day in Massachusetts, held in partnership with leaders of the legislature, advocacy, grassroots and community organizations; 
  9. Educational events for high-risk communities, with the priority focus on Black, Hispanic and Latino individuals. Many events are held in partnership with the NAACP New England Area Conference and its multiple branches, and other community partners. 



 

While this position will involve primarily remote work, our organization is located in one of the most desirable and secure office buildings in Government Center, in the immediate proximity to public transportation.


 

Successful interns will be considered for a continuous internship and/or permanent position, pending a final evaluation. 


 

This internship is aimed primarily at:

  1. Current college or masters degree students – with a part-time commitment for spring semester and/or full-time summer semester, with a preferred start in December 2023 or early January 2024 to ensure early on-boarding and training; or
  2. Recent college or masters degree graduates, with a preferred full-time commitment.


 

Position is hourly with standard federal and state benefits provided. Hourly rate will be commensurate with the candidates experience and skills. We prefer candidates who can commit to full-time effort during summer semester and at least 20 hours per week during fall or spring semesters, although full-time or near-full time commitment is preferred. 


 

Eligibility Requirements for Paid Internship Include: 

  1. Strong computer skills (MS Office required and Adobe/Photoshop preferred).
  2. Experience with WordPress and Apple computers is preferred;
  3. Must be able to provide documents authorizing employment;
  4. Full time or at least 20 hours per week for the spring semester is required;
  5. Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • 2-year Community College/Certificate students must be enrolled in an Associate’s Degree or Certificate program or completed one within the past year.
  • 4-year college or university students must have or will complete at least their freshman year the semester before the internship, or have graduated within the past year.
  • Graduate students must be enrolled in a Master’s Degree program or received their Master’s Degree.
