Special Educator (Early Learning Center)

Meeting Street is currently looking for an Special Educator in our Early Learning Center working 40 hours weekly. 

Duties:

  • Assists in all aspects of classroom management and supervision of children in an early childhood classrooms.
  • Works closely with team members and parents in designing and implementing goals outlined in each of the children’s individualized educational program (IEP) in a timely fashion.
  • Works with the early childhood educator to develop age-appropriate activities that address the goals outlined in the child’s IEP.
  • Keeps updated records on each student’s progress in order to write accurate evaluations and/or progress reports. Responsible for using Teaching Strategies Gold online portfolio to monitor progress.
  • Facilitates effective communication between the family, classroom staff, and other team members. Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and parent staff meetings and activities as assigned.
  • Actively seeks and participates in 20+ hours of professional development opportunities per year.
  • Assists and coordinates training for classroom staff related to Special Education.
  • Provides support for classroom staff in regard to issues and/or concerns related to children with special needs. Trains 1:1 Teacher Assistants on the IEP goals for their assigned child.
  • Coordinates each child’s necessary schedules (i.e. therapy, self-care) etc.
  • Fosters the development of age-appropriate self- help skills in children (diapering, toileting, feeding).
  • Develops intake transition plans for children entering or exiting the program.
  • Schedules and collaborates team meetings with classroom staff and therapists.
  • Actively participates in and supports the Programs efforts to maintain NAEYC accreditation, BrightStars quality rating, RI DCYF and RI Department of Education CECE licensing regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and
  • RI license pre-k to grade 2 for Early Childhood Special Education/ Severe/ Profound.
  • Experience working with young children – 3 years
  • Experience working in an inclusive setting – 3 years
  • Maintains valid CPR and first aid training/certification
  • RIELDS Foundations and Curriculum and or Classroom classes or old RIELS Level 2 certification
