Digital Communications Manager

Job Summary: The Manager, Digital Communications oversees GMF’s website and social channels and works closely with the Managing Director of Communications on developing strategies for innovating GMF’s digital presence. The Manager, Digital Communications will take the lead in growing GMF’s online visibility, reach, and audiences across GMF’s web, social platforms, and email platforms.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

· Oversee the day-to-day operations of the digital team and manage effective long-term planning and strategies, including workplans.

· Build internal organizational-wide partnerships and processes to improve internal communications

· Advise senior leadership on current and new digital outlets

· Maintain GMF brand and visual identity standards for online channels and approve printed items as needed.

· Manage relationship with GMF’s website vendor, including managing budgets, ensuring cybersecurity compliance, and prioritizing updates

· Create, develop, and implement high-quality content that effectively communicates GMF’s impact.

· Develop and implement strategy for digital promotion of GMF experts, events, programs, and publications

· Lead ongoing management and refinement of digital governance and best practices across GMF in order to effect successful creation and evolution of digital communications products

· Work directly with and incentivize programs and global offices to leverage these resources and invest in their own robust and effective digital presence

· Collect rigorous metrics and KPIs across GMF’s digital footprint to inform the proactive and forward-looking growth of GMF’s digital impact and inform digital and institutional strategies

· Define institute-wide digital communications priorities and define the path to achieve them

· Partner with senior staff and team across the institute to advance cross-cutting digital initiatives

· Manage the digital program’s agreements with key partners and service providers; draft and review RFPs; and manage budgets and relationships with outside vendors.

· Assist in publishing, updating, and maintaining gmfus.org and other GMF web properties

· Contribute to institutional content and editorial strategy by identifying opportunities for content visibility via web, social, and email channels

· Ensure current content and programming meets GMF’s standards

· Manage GMF’s digital response to crises

Additional Duties/Responsibilities (in order of importance):

 

· Works with development and program teams on communication components of grant proposals

· Fills in for other communications staff when needed, such as taking photos of events

· Act as liaison with external partners as needed

· Lead or guide development of written and visual content for website and social media channels Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms as needed

 

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

· Proven digital strategy experience, content creation, and management experience of digital teams and vendors

· Experience in web, social media, and email management, particularly in terms of growing and engaging online audiences; Familiarity with social media management tools (Sprout Social a plus)

· Excellent written and oral communication skills with a keen ability to distill policy ideas and transatlantic news and themes into language appropriate for social media and for the purposes of storytelling.

· Experience in writing and editing for the web and social media platforms

· Proven ability to create and implement digital strategy to engage and grow online communities using data, analytics, and audience metrics

· Knowledge of principles of web layout and design, HTML, content management systems, Drupal, and other web platforms

· Knowledge of best practices in SEO optimization

· Self-starter with the ability to manage communications and workflow across time zones

· Skilled cross-cultural collaborator and proactive interpersonal communicator

· Comfortable multitasking across multiple high priority, fast-moving projects

· Strong interest and knowledge of current events; Interest in international relations a plus

· Strong attention to detail, organized, and task-oriented

· Deep understanding of analytics and digital trends to support strategic vision for web and social

· Photography/multimedia skills a plus. Adobe Creative Suites (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Audition, etc.) and Canva particularly useful.

 

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five years of relevant experience, including at least two years managing full-time staff

 

Salary: $78,584 - $98,230
