Financial Planning Intern - Summer 2024

Our Finance Team is seeking a Financial Planning Intern - Summer 2024 to work out of our Portland, OR office. The following locations will also be considered: Vancouver, WA and Bend, OR.

This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2024 or later.

This 12 week internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program that is scheduled to start on May 20th, 2024. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

This position will predominantly support various cross-disciplinary tasks on the Interstate Bridge Replacement (IBR) Program including, but not limited to, financial planning, economic analysis, financial modeling, policy development, asset management, grant application preparation, tolling coordination/analysis, and more.
 
The position offers great opportunities for professional growth. You will work directly with industry thought leaders to identify and apply evolving requirements and innovative practices from large, highly visible projects across the United States. 

Your Impact

  • Researching industry trends
  • Evaluating alternatives and priorities
  • Developing the business case for infrastructure investments
  • Writing reports and grant applications
  • Supporting client meetings and workshops
  • Analyzing project and program funding and financing options
  • Reviewing and interpreting federal legislation and guidance
  • Performing quantitative analyses and data analytics
  • Developing financial models
  • Providing strategic support in all phases of infrastructure planning and project development
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code  Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Business, Economics, Finance, Urban or Transportation Planning, Operations Research, or related, Undergraduate program.
  • Demonstrated interest in Civil Engineering, Business, Economics, Finance, Urban or Transportation Planning, Operations Research, or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Comfortable presenting ideas, projects and solutions to clients and executives in a polished, professional manner.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience with a state, regional, or local government body in fields related to civil engineering, business, economics, finance, urban or transportation planning, or operations research.
  • Management consulting or advisory experience.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $17.00 - $28.00

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
