Research Assistant I

Position Summary

The Research Assistant I position will serve as part of the project team of the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council (GLITC) Epidemiology Center to carry out the program’s research agenda, provide accurate data, and perform data entry to maintain databases(s) through custom software. In addition, this individual will be expected to carry out a broad range of clerical/administrative support activities that will support the overall program activities.  Daily attendance is an essential function of this position.  This position reports directly to the Great Lakes Epidemiology Center Program Manager and works closely with all program staff and other departments to obtain and share information.

 Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in recruiting, coordinating, and arranging research projects and subjects.
  • Performs data entry using word processing, spreadsheet or database commands and formats material as required. Kofax validation.
  • Create data directories/subdirectories for file and report generation retrieval purposes. Maintain accuracy of entered data. Organize correspondence to provide ready access to department staff.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks related to hardware/software as necessary.
  • Review discrepancies in data received, request clarification of issues related to data, and perform data verification routines in accordance with procedures.
  • Assist with preparation of articles, reports and presentations as needed to depart information to tribal communities and members.
  • Maintain confidentiality as necessary.
  • Interact with staff to ensure standards in data entry, collection, and retrieval.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assure all services are delivered in a culturally competent manner.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as scheduled.
  • Attend technical conferences, seminars, workshops, and other education events as requested to remain current on technological and informational advances.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to fulfill the responsibility of this position.

This is a full-time opportunity working Mon-Fri 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM 40 hours per week with a work location in Lac Du Flambeau, WI. This is not a remote position.  Limited travel may be required. The salary for this position is $20.50 per hour with benefits including Annual/Personal Leave and Holiday Pay; Health, Dental, Life & AD&D, STD and LTD Insurance, FSA and 403(b) Retirement Plan. A background check and drug screen are required before employment. 

Qualifications: 

Any equivalent combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Required: Two-year degree in administrative/office support services or related field or equivalent experience required. Minimum of two years of experience in data entry primarily entering numerical research data in a variety of specialized formats.  Knowledge of word processing, basic spreadsheet and database maintenance and working knowledge of MS PowerPoint.  Basics of database entry of project management setups would be preferred. Other desired characteristics include experience with a Native American Tribal organization and/or not-for-profit organization; and Strong skills in word processing, composition, editing and proofreading of professional and technical materials.  Individual must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; professional demeanor and appearance; problem solving skills; ability to manage time effectively; self-motivation skills; work effectively under pressure; ability to build positive work relationships with internal and external customers; ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people.  Individuals must be able to apply advanced reasoning skills to problem solving and use basic mathematical skills.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation with adequate insurance and ability to travel.
