SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The purpose of this position is to promote careers in railway operations.  This position will be in the Commercial Planning and Development (CP&D) Department.  Responsible for reviewing and coordinating the internal review of third-party requests to occupy Amtrak property with Engineering and other stakeholders.  Accepted candidates for the position will have the opportunity to apply their real estate interests to gain firsthand work experience in the various aspects of railroad related real estate assets and operations. This position will support the NY based CP&D team focusing on major NY projects Penn Station, Moynihan Train Hall etc. by performing tasks as directed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assist in reviewing and tracking internal and external requests impacting Amtrak assets and infrastructure. 
• Assist in financial analysis of valuation projects.
• Assist in communicating Amtrak review comments relative to third party projects
• Assist in maintaining a database of projects and analyzing data to support requests for project information
• Liaise with business support units such as finance, engineering, or law department

 

Please be advised that the Fall 2023 internship program will run from September 18th - April 26th (full academic year).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. 
• Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business, Architecture, Urban Planning, Real Estate, Public Policy, or related field.
• Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum. 
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous real estate, financial analysis or project management experience
• Strong computer skills – particularly in MS Office including PowerPoint, document formatting, chart and graph creation and spreadsheet / budget creation
• Strong writing and editing skill

•- Strong cross-cultural, communication, time-management, and organizational skills
• Detail oriented with excellent organizational ability

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc.  In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
