Outreach Assistant- HNHF - Temporary Up to 38 Hours/Week

Prepare federal and state income tax filings for qualified taxpayers. Provided services will meet the highest standards of ethical conduct and quality customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Complete IRS/VITA tax law training, complete and pass all required certification exams, and obtain tax preparer certification at the advanced level.
  • Prepare state and federal income tax returns for qualified program participants using the required income tax preparation software. Note that in 2020, Tax Slayer software was used in the VITA program.
  • Work with clients in low-contact, socially distanced in-person sites or on NCH provided virtual platforms as assigned by supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with program participants to gather all needed intake information and provide high-quality customer service at all times.
  • Meet all NCH and IRS/VITA standards for providing honest, ethical, and confidential services to all program participants.
  • Support data gathering activities related to NCH research around the benefits of tax filings for low-income participants.
  • Understand and function within scope of practice standards established by the IRS/VITA program. Provide information about other avenues for tax preparation for clients with returns outside our site’s scope of practice.
  • Other relevant duties assigned by supervisor.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

1. High School graduate.

2. Basic knowledge of relevant income tax law (training in this area will be provided).

3. Strong ability to learn and use income tax preparation computer software.

4. Ability to work with the public in a calm, helpful manner.

5. Employ strong interviewing skills in completing all phases of the preparation process including intake interviews.

6. A flexible approach to task completion including the ability to work in a team-oriented atmosphere.

7. A detail-oriented approach that produces thorough, accurate results in tax preparation and other necessary documentation.

 

Most time will be spend sitting, using a computer at a desk or table.
