Direct Care - Awake Overnight

Caring and responsible person needed to guide adults with disabilities inside their home and community, working with other employees to achieve health and quality of life. Great opportunity for advancement.

SCHEDULE FOR THIS POSITION: 

Hours can vary around 11p-9a, to include weeknights and weekends.

KEY ACTIVITIES:
  • Complete required forms on medical, behavioral and community goals from their Individual Support Plan (ISP) and help individuals in their day-to-day life to achieve their goals such as:
  • Assisting each individual in developing skills in all areas of community living, including doing household tasks and learning social skills.
  • Assisting each individual to behave appropriately.
  • Assisting each individual to be active in their community.
  • Assist and provide safety and personal care to individuals.
  • Give out medicine to individuals, as needed.
  • Communicate with other staff through reports and logs.
  • Help individuals with community and recreational activities.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO….
  • Awake Overnight will be responsible for coverage of the residence during hours agreed upon with the Program Director.
  • Awake Overnight will remain awake and fully-dressed including shoes, during entire shift.
  • Awake Overnight will perform light housekeeping duties as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Awake Overnight will keep daily records on all teaching programs and significant behaviors/incidents, which occur during shift and record in medical log any medications given, seizures and illnesses.
  • Awake Overnight will protect each individual’ rights & freedoms, maintaining confidentiality of any information relating to individuals in the residence.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

EVENING RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be aware of the whereabouts of individuals at all times.
  • Read log to gather pertinent information.
  • Monitor and record taking of medications.
  • Assure that all doors and windows are locked.
  • Implement evacuation procedure during fire drills or in case of fire, according to the emergency and disaster plan.

MORNING RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assure that morning routines are carried through.
  • Assist individuals to be well groomed (hair combed, teeth brushed, etc.) and dressed in clean and appropriate clothing before leaving the apartment.
  • Monitor and record taking of morning medications.
  • Assist individuals with breakfast preparation.
  • Assure that all individuals have bag lunches on weekdays (or money to purchase lunch if they choose).
  • Communicate appropriate messages to Day Programs.
  • Record all pertinent information of evening and morning events in the Staff and Resident Logs.

TRAINING:
  • Complete Fidelity House Orientation Training and Medication Certification.
  • Attend in-service training programs sponsored by the Department of Developmental Services as agreed upon with the Program Director.
  • Attend specific required in-service training, including, but not limited to:
  • First Aid/CPR Training.
  • OSHA Training.
  • Attend training in the management of orthotic devices, adaptive equipment, safe transfers and body mechanics as needed by individual residents.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Medication Administration Program (MAP) Certification preferred, or must be certifiable.
  • Must have valid Driver’s License.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to move independently throughout a wide range of environments, some of which may not be wheelchair or otherwise handicapped accessible, is required. Independent transportation to locations that may not be served by public transportation may be necessary. Fidelity House Human Services will make reasonable accommodations, whenever possible, when needed and/or requested by employees. Requests for accommodations will be honored, unless the accommodation would cause undue hardship on the operation of the program and/or on the organization.
