Technology & Innovation Intern (NJ office)

This Standard Summer 2024 Internship is a paid intern experience that will be based in our Parsippany, NJ office. Standard Digital leads Standard and its Operating Companies in innovation. While our operating companies focus on the business of making products for our users, we focus our energies on looking to the future - new technologies, processes and tooling to continue to move our products forward. We also look to improve efficiencies to reduce waste and our environmental footprint or create improvements to increase yield. The ideal candidate for this position within our team is a rising Sophomore or Junior, who is optimistic, curious, and not afraid to speak up.

 

What part will you play? Potential projects:

 

  • Time of flight demonstration: LIDAR sensors - set up a demonstration in python with a local dashboard to demonstrate how to measure distance
  • Research sensors for application various applications
  • Create tests, share and communicate results with engineering and innovation teams
  • Create functional test unit for plants

 

  • Create a containerized application: Docker or CaaS via GCP - take an existing IoT application or ML/AI model and create an executable container to be run on our edge devices
  • Create Assisted Reality (AR) Application: provide the ability for plant managers to view system and machine performance data in a heads up display as they walk through the plant. SDK (java/C#) will be provided for development
  • System design: create a solution to measure the viscosity of asphalt in production. Little to no coding required. Technology investigation on how a system might be designed (components/interfaces) to solve this problem.
  • Research a creative approach to accurately measure viscosity of asphalt
  • Communication with startups and academia will be required to achieve the project goals
  • Presentation of proposed design/solution will be presented to management and plant teams
  • System design: create a solution to test production properties of clay and cement tiles without destroying them. Little to no coding required. Technology investigation on how a system might be designed (components/interfaces) to solve this problem.

 

What do we require from you?

 

  • Ability to code, proficiency, with at least one of the following: python, java, c/c++, html/css or the ability to demonstrate another language
  • Familiar with the agile process/framework
  • Public cloud experience would be a plus but not required: AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Knowledge of SQL a plus, but not required
  • Ability to research and document findings for leadership: writing and presentation skills
  • Overall minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Actively pursuing an undergraduate Engineering, Science, or Mathematics related degree from an accredited institution, with an anticipated graduation date between May 2026 and May 2027
