Photo/Video Journalist

Photo/video journalists tell the story of EXPLO sessions through EXPLO’s online photo and video platform for students, staff, and families, as well as capture content for social media, blog posts, and other marketing pieces. Always looking to capture the next great moment on campus, Photo/video journalists compile photo and video clips of the dozens of classes, activities, events, and trips that happen each day. While this position contains minimal direct supervision of students, Photo/video journalists still weave themselves into the fabric of the EXPLO community throughout the summer. In addition to the Photo/video journalist’s primary job responsibilities, they also assist with programmatic tasks, chaperone students on evening and weekend trips, and otherwise contribute to the success of the Program both in and out of the classroom.

Video/Photojournalist Responsibilities

  • Taking daily photos and videos of happenings on campus, sorting through and formatting content, and publishing content to the site on EXPLOs server.
  • Conduct interviews with students and staff and write blog posts about exciting happenings on campus
  • Create a flexible daily schedule that allows for a variety of classes, events, and activities to be captured with quality photos around campus.
  • Provide daily content for and maintenance of the Program’s summer photo hub, uploaded each morning by 11:00 am.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other staff  and relevant summer office administrators and managers.
  • Communicating daily with EXPLO’s Photojournalist supervisor to receive guidance and feedback on quality and standard of work.
  • Be responsive to on-campus supervisors to ensure photos are representative of the student campus experience.
  • Produce an end-of-session slideshow once per session to be shared with students.
  • Design the daily Atlas (schedule and calendar of events) using Canva template.

Campus Operations + Student Life

  • Receive and implement feedback from your EXPLO supervisor and other managers on campus to improve systems and processes;
  • Assist with workshops, electives, activities, trips, and other programmatic tasks; 
  • Chaperone resident Summer Program students on evening and weekend trips; and
  • Perform additional Summer Program duties as may be assigned to you.

 

About You

You’ve got:

  • Experience with capturing stories through photos, videos, and blog-style writing
  • Familiarity with photo and video equipment, and digital editing software
  • Availability to live and work on campus for the duration of the summer program

Ideally, you’ve also got:

  • 2+ years of post-high school experience by the summer 
  • Some experience with kids and/or adolescents


Compensation + Benefits

This is a seven week, seasonal position. Remote training for this role may begin as early as January 2024. In person training begins in mid-June 2024. Compensation for this role starts at $4950 plus room and board. For the health and safety of our community, EXPLO requires all employees and new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
