Opioid/Over the Counter Coordinator VISTA

The Schuyler County Coalition on Underage Drinking and Drugs (SCCUDD) is a group of dedicated community members, businesses, and agencies. To prevent, reduce, and delay the onset of substance use among Schuyler County youth by: collaborating with our community partners, promoting prevention education and substance-free activities, and implementing environmental strategies. SCCUDD envisions a connected community where Schuyler County youth have education, resources, and drug-free options to help their journey to become happy, healthy adults. This site is a part of the Rural Health Service Corps (RHSC). RHSC is an AmeriCorps National Service Program administered by the Rural Health Network of South Central New York. The purpose of the Rural Health Service Corps is to provide meaningful service and learning opportunities for people committed to improving the health and lives of those living in South Central New York State. Rural Health Service Corps members address the broad community health needs of South Central NY, with a focus on health access and education (specifically combating the opioid epidemic) and creating systemic food security. AmeriCorps members serving through the Rural Health Service Corps have the opportunity to serve their communities as they develop professional skills, build teamwork and leadership abilities, learn more about the areas of nonprofit management and community health, and connect with a broad network of AmeriCorps members, alumni and supporters. Rural Health Service Corps started in 2008 and expanded to include a VISTA program in 2012. Since the RHSC program’s inception, over 200 members have served with RHSC in communities throughout South Central NY. RHSC alumni have gone on to careers in medicine, public health and nonprofit management, among other fields.

 

As the Opioid/Over the Counter Coordinator VISTA, you will address the opioid crisis in Schuyler County by organizing and supporting coalition work surrounding substance abuse and the opioid epidemic. This will involve developing additional orientation programming for new coalition members, managing and evaluating the DisposeRX program, expanding partnerships with regional opioid task forces and community members, and lead resource development and sustainability efforts within the coalition. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in addressing the opioid epidemic through a regional coalition approach with a public health focus.
