Science Department Intern

Science Department Lab Internship

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position serves to support the day-to-day activities of the STE Department for providing all General Science curricula, lab materials, and supports for our teachers across our schools serving grades K-10. Our curriculum comes in a variety of formats for student accessibility with the mastery of standards-based content that is in alignment with the revised Massachusetts STE standards. This entails hands-on learning opportunities that entail the Science & Engineering Practices. This internship will be supervised by the STE Curriculum Coordinator, who has dual teaching certifications in Moderate Special Needs and Biology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ordering, stocking, packaging, dissemination of lab materials for grades K-8 to meet teacher requests & scheduling in a timely manner across multiple schools

Setting up of an organized, transparent process for the above item

Assisting the STE for other materials, as needed throughout the other schools

Curriculum modifications (with guidance)

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

It is preferred applicants be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program within science, education, or psychology.

Excellent written oral communication skills, punctuality, attendance, time management, and attention to details are required. The ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, creatively problem solve, and access resources are essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (with or without accommodations)

Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear and be capable of repetitive motion

Position requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly

Work requires close visual acuity

Position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

SALARY, HOURS, AND PERKS

We do provide breakfast and lunch free of charge. There are opportunities for free trainings that have included such topics as CPR, 1st Aid, MATCH, Executive Functioning, Unconscious Bias & CPI.

It is preferred applicants be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program within science, education or psychology. An interview, cover letter, resume, and 3 references are required. Upon hiring a background check is required. 

This is a part-time position (30 weeks) for the 2023-4 academic year. The compensation is $15 hr for 10 hours a week.
