Program Specialist for Youth Program

JOB TITLE:            Program Specialist

 

DEPARTMENT:   Boston 

 

REPORTS TO:     Executive Director

 

STATUS:               Part-time (20 Hours), nonexempt. 

 

Pay Rate:             $16.00-$22.00 per hour

 

Schedule:  Monday -Friday at the Shaw Elementary School, Mattapan 12:00pm-2:00pm.  Tuesday and Thursday 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Brooke Charter School, East Boston.  4 hours of preparation and administration time (flexible hours) total 20 hours 

 

 

OVERVIEW: Girls Inc. of Boston and Lynn, a nonprofit organization, has been operating programs and advocating for girls since 1942. As a member of a national organization, our comprehensive, intentional after-school and out-of-school day programming focuses on developing the whole girl. A combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, and research-based programming equips girls to lead fulfilling and productive lives, break the cycle of poverty and become role models in their community. We inspire all girls ages 5-18 to be strong, smart, and bold in our in-school and out-of-school-time programs.

 

 

Purpose:

Girls Inc. of Boston and Lynn seeks a Program Specialist for an exciting position to deliver Be Bold a cutting-edge curriculum designed to provide girls the opportunity to talk about violence issues at school and among peers, in their communities, and in their families for girls grades 2nd-5th at our School Partner at the Shaw Elementary School in Mattapan. 

The Program Specialist will deliver our Strong, Smart and Bold Program, a literacy program that combines fun engaging and joyful programming activities that target critical grade-level literacy benchmarks for girls in grades 1st- 5th   at our School-Partner site at the Brooke Charter School in East Boston.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts special interest group/activities for girls 5-13 years of age.
  • Assists with program planning with other staff members.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of problems, concerns, needs, trends and unusual activities.
  • Maintains accurate class records.
  • Participates in staff meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Organizes and maintains assigned work area.
  • Assists with program transportation service.
  • Carries out other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Orders snacks for programs 
  • Maintains communication with School Partners

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with school aged youth from under-resourced communities.
  • A self-starter with the ability to lead teams and foster cooperation.
  • Classroom management experience and/or experience facilitating girls’ groups   strongly preferred.
  • Skilled in communicating and collaborating with school administration and staff and families.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills with girls and adults
  • Ability to pivot and respond appropriately and with a sense of urgency  in critical situations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify needs and develop relevant programs.
  • Ability to maintain an inclusive work environment that is respectful and supportive of all communities.
