POSITION SUMMARY

The Prospect Research Analyst supports the advancement of the center’s vision and mission by researching and identifying funding sources in an effort to assist stakeholders in meeting and exceeding annual contributed income goals and work plan objectives. The Prospect Research Analyst uses critical thinking and analytical skills to develop research plans and identify sources needed to gain information. The Analyst is responsible for researching, identifying, and analyzing prospective funders for cultivation and solicitation.. The researcher works collaboratively across departments to advance the arts center’s mission and goals while supporting its core values.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In accordance with organizational Work Plans, proactively develops and implements strategies to identify sources of funding for leadership gifts ($1mil+), Major Gifts ($100,000+) and annual gifts.
  • Use critical thinking and analytical skills when selecting research methods. Conducts research on individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of sources including online database services, websites, library and governmental services, and other repositories of public information.
  • Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity and philanthropic tendencies of potential funders. Compose documents (profiles, biographies, project summaries) using grammar and content appropriate to specific projects. Present newly identified prospects to Gift Officers and Leadership according to project deadlines.
  • Support research requests organization-wide including Strategic Partnerships, Corporate Affairs, Marketing, Programming, etc.
  • Serve as the primary Development Team Tessitura Users Group representative, the Dr. Phillips Center donor management and tracking system. Remain knowledgeable on system features and updates. Communicate system/process changes to users. Develop and document local data entry procedures and company guidelines for database entry and maintenance.
  • Identify and update Tessitura functionality for constituent profiles, plans and all other donor management components in coordination with Development, Tessitura and IT department representatives.
  • Partner with the Development administrative team to produce reports for gift officers for list review.
  • Perform data verification and quality control on Tessitura information and reports.
  • Participate in weekly Development team meetings and Finance month-end meetings.
  • Maintain system security and user access for the fundraising database.
  • Follow and support all operational policies and procedures. Assimilate into the arts center culture through understanding, supporting and demonstrating the core values.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, colleagues, and partners.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure. Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy. Maintain Dr. Phillips Center standards of customer service at all times.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English in both written and oral forms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years demonstrated experience in prospect research.
  • Must have a high level of computer literacy, including experience using online databases and other sources to locate financial and philanthropic information.
  • Knowledge of general principles of major gifts fundraising.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to initiate and perform complex analysis.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with fundraising and research software preferred. High level proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, etc.).
  • A self-starter and able to work independently and with a team.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to set and meet deadlines and manage numerous complex projects simultaneously.
  • Experience handling confidential information appropriately.
