Job Summary:

 

The Director of the Miller Center for Student Disability Services (MCSDS) oversees all operations of Student Disability Services, provides supervision and leadership to a talented MCSDS team, and leads the university’s efforts to provide access and equal opportunity for students with disabilities at Miami University. The Director also participates on University-wide initiatives and committees that focus on inclusion, access, and compliance, and serves on the Dean’s Leadership Team and the Miami University Care Team. The Director reports to the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students and works collaboratively with other members of divisional leadership.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

•Provide vision and strategic direction, fiscal stewardship, and team development for the Miller Center for Student Disability Services.
•Develop and implement policies and procedures including eligibility and documentation requirements, and oversee inclusion efforts in academic programs and campus life for students with disabilities; coordinates the education of students, faculty, and staff about Miami’s disability services.
•Productively partner with (i) external stakeholders; (ii) faculty, staff, and students outside of the division, especially with IT and academic affairs; and (iii) intra-divisional colleagues, to advance the strategic objectives of the University, the division, and the Miller Center.
•Serve as an informed advocate for students with disabilities both within Miami University and more broadly; remain current on compliance requirements and best practices related to the Americans with Disabilities Act, section 504, and related services for students with disabilities; partner with key stakeholders on and around campus to remove technological and physical barriers for students with disabilities.
•Serve as the key reviewer in the Miller Center’s grievance process for student disability-related concerns, and provide referrals to the Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity (OEEO) as necessary.
•Strategically plan for the acquisition of, analysis, and application of data in order to prepare reports and/or make presentations or provide training related to the areas of responsibility.
•Manage donor relations and endowments; ensure donors are recognized and consistently engaged through gift acknowledgements, thank you letters, and impact reports.
•Review, understand, and manage relevant budgets; strategically seek, advocate for, and/or reallocate resources across areas of responsibility consistent with divisional priorities.
•Keep professionally current by participating in regional and national associations and conferences; maintain a working knowledge of changing practices and legislation in the field of disability services.
•Maintain a caseload to stay connected with the student experience.
•Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

•Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education, Social Work or related field.
•5 or more years of experience with disability services, ADA/504 coordination, and/or serving students with mental health concerns, chronic health challenges, or learning disabilities.
•2 or more years of working in a higher education setting.
•Prior supervisory experience in a similar office or related field.

•Experience with departmental team development, visioning, and assessment.
