Job Title Process Engineer – Lean Manufacturing

 

Summary of Internship

The Process Engineer – Lean Manufacturing internship position provides an opportunity for engineering students who are currently pursuing a computer science, computer engineering, or like engineering degree to get hands on experience working with engineers in a fast-paced software design and software quality assurance environment. The software intern will contribute to development projects and advance best design practices. The position starts in June, paid working 40 hours per week through August.  Opportunity exists for this position to continue through the academic year on a part-time basis to allow for class schedules. 

 

  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status. Unrestricted US Work Authorization. Forms of OPT and CPT are restricted work authorization and are not accepted for this role.

 

Essential Functions

  • Provide engineering support related to product development projects including testing and design

 

  • Develop standard work standards and line balancing for productivity.

 

  • Identify manufacturing cost reductions.

 

  • Optimize machining processes to reach product quality, efficiency and process repeatability.

 

  • Execute LEAN manufacturing techniques and design.

 

  • Optimize work flow and cell designs for shop throughput.

 

  • Design machine and tools for new product or process.

 

  • Track and execute cost reduction for process improvements.

 

  • Plan, execute and manage projects to complete through product continuous improvement.

 

  • Develop and sustain employees training and development on lean concepts.

 

  • Lead value stream mapping exercises to determine and record business improvement areas.

 

  • Develop and implement project plans to achieve Future State.

 

  • Plan and reach expense budget objectives and capital items

  • Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
  • Desire to contribute and improve design of new and existing scientific instrumentation products
  • Exceptional customer focus
  • Desire to teach other engineers about technology in area of expertise

 

Qualifications

  • Student must be enrolled in an Engineering undergraduate program
  • 0-3 years experience preferred
