PART TIME JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Teen Tech Mentor Rate of Pay: $30.00 per hour
Reports To: Teen Site Coordinator

SUMMARY
During out of school hours, the Teen Tech Mentor leads workshops, mentors teens and supports digital literacy initiatives for teens. The Teen Tech Mentor is responsible for the coordination and running of the Teen Tech Lab including scheduling technology and maker workshops and Tech Lab open hours, as well as, the maintenance of the equipment in Tech labs. Mentors will work closely with the Digital Literacy Coordinator and Digital Literacy Lead Instructors on the development and implementation of workshops. Under the direction of the Teen Site Coordinator, the Teen Tech Mentor will assist in the facilitation of programs for teens including but not limited to podcasting, social media content creation, sound recording and maker programs. Performs other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Programs, Services and Mentorship
- Mentors will work closely with the Digital Literacy Coordinator and Digital Literacy Lead Instructors on the development and implementation of workshops.
- Provide one-on-one assistance and support to Teen Library users. Develops and maintains positive relationships with students.
- Supports outside presenters in delivery of specialized technology workshops.
Administration and Tech Support
- Responsible for the lending and scheduling of tech equipment during Tech Lab hours.
- Maintains equipment in Teen Tech Labs, this may include IPads, PCs, 3-D printers. Works with IT department to update or troubleshot equipment.
- Works with the Teen Site Coordinator to schedule technology workshops, lab hours and larger program initiatives.
- Assists Teen Center Coordinator in the completion of monthly reports and data collection as well as the completion and submission of incident reports if/when necessary.
- Collects and organizes attendance information for daily programming within the teen space.
- Collects and organizes other relevant program data (programming evaluations, surveys,
etc.)
SCHEDULE
Monday to Friday afternoons with the possibilities of Saturdays, year round, with a maximum of 17 hours per week.
KEY CONTACTS
Interacts with all community members especially youth. All Queens Public Library Departments, in particular Digital Literacy, Job and Business Academy, Community Library staff, Programs & Services, Adult Learner Program, and IT staff.
CORE COMPETENCIES
The Teen Tech Mentor must consistently demonstrate the following competencies when performing the above responsibilities, including but not limited to: flexibility in approaching daily responsibilities, cooperative teamwork, and impacting and influencing services provided in Queens Public Library communities.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Computer Science or related field required with a minimum of two years of experience in implementing interactive youth or technology training programs or a minimum of 60 college credits, in a related field, with a minimum of three years of experience in implementing interactive youth programs or technology training required.
Advanced proficiency in technology, including: MS Office; Google Apps; Mac, PC, and mobile platforms
Demonstrated proficiency in at least one of the following areas: web development and design; Adobe Creative Suite; 3D printing; 2D game design; data analysis and visualization; learning management systems; physical computing; Java, Python, or comparable programming languages. Proven ability for mastering emerging technologies and staying informed on current trends.
A demonstrated desire to work with youth. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required. Must have excellent attention to detail and familiarity with diverse customers’ needs.
