Contracted Student Interns - (23000CKX)

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is the state agency responsible for ensuring clean air and water, the safe management of toxics and hazards, the recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, the timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources.  

 

The Duration of this internship is January 2024 – May 2024

 

Interns will assist the Office of General Counsel in providing legal support to MassDEP on a wide range of issues, including the protection of public resources, the remediation of contamination, promoting environmental justice to address disparate impacts to vulnerable communities, and mitigating the effects of climate change. This is an intern contracted position for up to 22.5 hours per week starting in January 2024 and ending in May 2024.

 

As part of their internship, students will research a wide range of legal issues, draft memoranda, and present findings to MassDEP staff. Interns will work one-on-one with individual attorneys and be able to participate in deliberative meetings and administrative appeals as part of their internship.

 

Qualifications

 Preferred Qualifications.

 A background with environmental law and administrative law is extremely helpful, but any law student with an interest in environmental protection and environmental justice is encouraged to apply. Other legal coursework that may be beneficial includes property, corporations, and land use.  Applicants are required to: (1) Be enrolled in a JD or LLM degree program; and (2) Submit a cover letter, application, resume, writing sample, and transcript.
