Intern, DMPK Oligonucleotide Discovery/Development

Neurodegenerative diseases are one of the largest medical challenges of our time. Denali Therapeutics is a biotechnology company dedicated to developing breakthrough therapies for neurodegenerative diseases through our deep commitment to degeneration biology and principles of translational medicine. Denali is founded on the collaboration of leading scientists, industry experts, and investors who share the vision that scientific discovery energetically applied to translational medicine is the key to delivering effective therapies to patients.

The Opportunity

Denali is seeking to hire a motivated intern in the DMPK group who is interested in mass spectrometry (MS) and absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) sciences applied in drug discovery and early development. Under the guidance of DMPK group, the candidate for this position will contribute to assay development for characterizing the distribution, catabolism, and excretion of oligonucleotides. This role requires a strong technical background in mass spectrometry, ideally with experience generating and interpreting high resolution mass spectral data for complex molecules. This position entails hands-on experience in wet laboratory techniques and experimental design, involving the coordination of cross-functional activities, meticulous documentation of results, and effective communication of findings. The role offers a unique opportunity for collaboration with scientists from various disciplines including Discovery Chemistry, Safety Assessment, Biology, and Development Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire and interpret high-resolution mass spectral data to characterize the catabolism pathways of candidate oligonucleotides in vitro and in vivo.
  • Develop and optimize high-throughput oligonucleotide assays using a robotic system to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Interact with multi-disciplinary project teams to design and conduct in vitro and in vivo DMPK studies to characterize oligonucleotides.
  • Adapt existing approaches, develop and confirm new strategies, for ADME assays that fit the specific needs of oligonucleotide projects.
  • Delivering presentations during and at the conclusion of your internship experience, summarizing research and recommendations; audiences will include colleagues within and outside of the DMPK/Development Sciences team.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD candidate in Drug Metabolism, Pharmacokinetics, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline.
  • Proficiency in wet lab techniques and experimental design is essential.
  • Strong desire to learn new techniques, such as automation, solid phase extraction, liquid chromatography, and mass spectrometry, with a dedicated commitment to continuous learning and skill development. Experience and knowledge with interpreting high-resolution mass spectral data is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and scientific skills, and excellent oral presentation and written communication skills.

Denali is committed to its core company value of unity by creating a diverse and inclusive environment.  We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, status as a veteran, basis of disability, or any other federal, state or local protected class.
