AmeriCorps NCCC Forest Corps 2024 Member

Forest Corps is a NEW program partnership between AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) and United States Forest Service (USFS). 

Forest Corps will provide you with hands on wildland fire prevention and restoration experience while you serve in a team of 18-26 year olds, earn money for college, travel, and help communities. The AmeriCorps NCCC mission is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through team-based national and community service. 

Training for the 2024 Forest Corps will be held at the Pacific Region campus in Sacramento, CA. Here is what you can expect during your service: 

  • Serve full-time for 10 months (1 month training, 9 months completing service projects).
  • Work alongside a team of 8-12 young adults.
  • Work closely with USFS professionals in the sector of natural and cultural resource management -Deploy to a minimum of 3 projects across the country (transportation provided).
  • Perform direct, hands-on service in the areas of Wildfire Risk Mitigation, Reforestation, Environmental Conservation, and Resource Management. 
  • Your service project could include hazardous fuels reduction, protecting threatened habitats, conducting prescribed burnings, wildlife surveys, infrastructure or trail maintenance, or providing nursery services to support growing seedlings, so adaptability is key! 
  • You’ll also undergo intensive training with the United States Forest Service to prepare you and take on leadership roles and specialized assignments along the way.

Forest Corps work is field based and rigorous. You must be prepared to handle hiking long distances while carrying a heavy pack, uneven terrain, carrying heavy tools, and be able to complete trail work, surveys, prescribed fire burns, and other labor-intensive outdoors projects.
