Temporary Upward Bound Instructor, English

Position requires a dynamic and highly interactive person to interface with and teach high school students in grades (9th-12th) in the field of English.

 

Additionally, there are many activities, field trips, college visits, and other experiences designed to help students grow and mature. The Upward Bound (UB) TRIO Program goal is to generate the skills and motivation necessary for low income, potential first-generation college students to complete secondary and higher education programs.

 

Schedule is two Saturdays per month from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm for the academic year and Monday to Thursday. Class will start at 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Complete a course outline for each subject taught and submit that outline at least one-week prior to the commencement of class to the Upward Bound office.

Conduct a pre-assessment of students during either the first or no later than the second Saturday class.

 

Summer schedule is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for a total of six weeks. Instructors provide a home assignment for students to do on Fridays and return the following week.

 

Certified instructors- $27.00 an hour; and non-certified- $21 an hour. Instructor must provide credentials and will be paid monthly for 8 hours, a total of four hours for each Saturday session taught, two Saturdays a month. Online and in classroom sessions may be required.

 

Applications without attached copies of official transcripts or non-web based unofficial transcripts will not be considered. Transcripts for Adjunct positions must either be an official copy or a college-stamped student copy or a non-web based unofficial transcript, scanned into an electronic format and attached to their application. Transcripts produced through web-based student systems will not be accepted.

 

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or Graduate coursework required

Must be able to teach Intensive Reading, English 1 and 2, and English Honors/AP or AICE.

Experience teaching and delivering instructions are required

Must have enthusiasm, ability to motivate students, commitment to teaching culturally diverse students, and ability to work with minimal supervision
