Mentor Coach/Teaching Fellow

About the Opportunity:

The World Science Festival is seeking a Mentor Coach/Teaching Fellow to train high school and college-aged mentors and run weekly discussion groups for the Junior World Science Scholars program.

 

The Junior World Science Scholars program is an online summer program designed for highly gifted students between the ages of 7 and 11 who are passionate about math and science and are enthusiastic to learn more.  Throughout the program, students will be mentored by World Science Festival staff and by student mentors from the selective World Science Scholars program. The Mentor Coach/Teaching Fellow will be responsible for working with both junior scholars and mentors to ensure that both groups have enriching summer experiences.
 

This part-time position begins May 28, 2024 and ends August 9, 2024. It is fully remote, with the option of in-office work in New York City. Compensation is $3,500.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Preparing and delivering weekly mentor trainings in the month leading up to program
  • Joining individual mentoring sessions with mentors and mentees
  • Preparing and delivering weekly discussion group materials for junior scholars during program 
  • Facilitating two group check-ins for mentors during the program

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Mathematics and/or science teaching experience
  • Mentoring and leadership or coaching experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to think quickly and offer feedback in a kind and timely manner
  • Willingness to spend time learning the curriculum which contains advanced math and physics concepts
