Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow

Job Summary:  The Section of Pediatric Plastic Surgery in the Division of Plastic Surgery and Department of Surgery has an opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position at the rank of Research Fellow. The Division is committed to improving the health of children by fostering and promoting a culture of academic and clinical excellence. The selected candidate will report to the Head of Pediatric Plastic Surgery, Dr. Phuong Nguyen, and will be expected to produce 2-3 podium presentations, 5 publications, and at least 1 first authorship. This position will commit to at least one year of employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Authoring scientific abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Presenting results at institutional and national conferences.
  • Constructing and submitting grant applications to local and national funding agencies.
  • Developing Internal Review Board applications for research studies.
  • Coordinating ongoing research projects.
  • Maintenance of clinical and research databases.
    • Education:  Current Medical Student with interest in eventual matriculation into plastic surgery residency

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:  Current Medical Student with interest in eventual matriculation into plastic surgery residency

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in an academic or research environment.
  • Previous experience performing statistical analyses for clinical research.
  • Previous experience leading scientific manuscripts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other members of a research team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Motivated, strong work ethic, attention to detail, interest in learning new skills and scientific discovery.
