Refugee and Resettlement Case Management Internship - Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services for Arlington Diocese

We are seeking people to help provide quality services in helping newly arrived families succeed in their new community; if this interests you, then this is the opportunity for you. We are looking for people who are:

· Willing to work closely in direct support of case management staff.        

· Good interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills

· Flexible and adaptable regarding change in routines and duties

 

Objectives:

· Help us to provide newly arrived families with ongoing support and services to gain employment and be successful in the United States. Learn about acculturation challenges and opportunities refugees/immigrants have with legal status encounter after U.S. arrival.

· Learn about services and requirements during the first resettlement period for refugees, asylees, SIVs, and Parolees

There may be opportunities to meet people at the airport to welcome them to our country.

· You will help with providing direct participation in assisting new arrivals to settle in and on their way to self-sufficiency.

· Experience how government social services impact the lives of new arrivals.

 

Duties:  may include what is listed below:

  • Help newly arrived families in enrolling clients in English classes.
  • Follow up with providers such as the Social Security Administration and the Department of Social Services.
  • We are enrolling young children in Head Start and WIC programs.
  • Booking transportation for clients, utilizing Uber, Lyft, or taxis, as well as transporting clients and donations to clients’ homes
    • Driving has additional requirements.
  • Guiding clients through the process of gaining a driver’s License
  • Submit a change of address forms.
  • Assist clients in their first grocery trip with SNAP/EBT card. Help them understand shopping options and limitations on SNAP.
  • Guide clients through the process of using public transportation.
  • Utilizing Common Help to assist clients in signing up for social services.
  • Participate in pre-employment group training sessions.
  • Assist with developing marketing materials for MRS programs.

Onboarding Trainings Required: The volunteer Manager will collaborate with you to complete these.

  • CPS (Child Protective Services) Training – submit signed memo.
  • APS (Adult Protective Services) Training – submit signed memo.
  • Review the Volunteer Handbook and submit the receipt of the manual.
  • Criminal Background Request form 
  • VIRTUS training – Protecting God’s Children within the first 45 days (attend and submit certificate)
  • Lifting Training/submitting signed memos (multiple positions)
