Studio assistant, and Gallery assistant

The Don Gorvett Gallery and Studio have been providing internships for students for almost twenty years. This internship is an exceptional opportunity for individuals interested in understanding the woodcut printmaking process, and experiencing working in a fine art gallery. We offer two internship positions, one during the academic year and one in the summer. All interns will have the opportunity to create woodcuts under the guidance of Don Gorvett in his studio. There is an opportunity to intern in either the Portsmouth Gallery, or the studio in Gloucester:

Portsmouth Gallery: Assist with the catalog of the artist's inventory in the gallery, and speak with the public about the work. Some exposure to the printmaking process as well.

Gloucester Studio: Work directly under the guidance of Don Gorvett in his studio on woodcuts, large wood cuts, mixing ink and learning how to lay it down. There are also workshops over the summer.

We require a commitment of 25 hours per week for ten weeks. Other responsibilities include opening or closing the studio and gallery, maintaining an appealing environment, talking with visitors about the woodcut process, and assisting with workshops, exhibitions, and other gallery-related events. We are happy to speak with and encourage a studio or gallery visit for interested students or educators about the internship program.

This is an unpaid internship, yet college credit can be granted to students through their school. If you are interested in becoming an intern and willing to fulfill the various responsibilities, please email a brief letter of interest stating why you would like the position along with your current resume. We are presently accepting and reviewing applications for the summer season. Please note that we have two locations, Portsmouth, NH, and Gloucester, MA. Please email all internship inquiries directly to info@dongorvettgallery.com.
