Product Liability Case Assistant

Foley Hoag LLP seeks a highly organized and self-motivated individual to assist a legal team by performing both routine and analytical writing, research, and communication tasks associated with product liability cases. Must be a team player yet capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.

 

This role requires on-site work in our Boston office with the potential for occasional remote/flexible work opportunities depending on business needs as determined by your supervisor. 

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with team members, local counsel around the country and client regarding status, tasks, pending deadlines, etc., including summarizing key information on facts, strategy, and deadlines.
  • Maintain case management database and case calendars, including recording case details and reviewing all correspondence on a current basis, and regularly communicate all deadlines and relevant tasks to team.
  • Draft various deadline/task lists, case status reports, billing and budget estimates, defense cost statistics, etc., for both internal and external reporting.
  • Contribute to overall case strategy by reviewing case filings and client documents, conducting Internet and occasional legal research, and preparing summaries for team members.
  • Review discovery materials, including fact and expert witness deposition testimony, prepare summaries of same and help formulate case defenses and/or areas for further investigation.
  • Search for and review medical and scientific literature, and prepare related analyses, for use in developing expert reports and testimony for deposition or trial.
  • Create Excel spreadsheets analyzing quantitative data (e.g., from epidemiologic risk analyses) and depicting same graphically
  • Review and summarize case-specific medical records and expert witness reports.
  • Administrative projects including maintaining electronic and hard copy files; obtaining documents from various courts and outside counsel; assisting with document production; monitoring relevant email distribution lists; attending case team and practice group meetings; etc.
  • Perform additional tasks and duties as requested.

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree with strong academic record.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, writing, research, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with legal and administrative staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Willingness and ability to learn litigation management software and develop expertise in litigation and product liability, as well as medical, scientific, and statistical issues.
  • Prior legal or office experience is a plus.
  • Background in or experience with statistics and/or epidemiology would be a plus.

Compensation range is $50,000 to $63,000 commensurate with related experience and qualification. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, specialty, and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the firm's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
