Big Sister Association Community Engagement Specialist (Intern)  

 

Organization Overview   

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is 100% invested in girls! We serve all Boston neighborhoods as well as 69 cities and towns in Greater Boston! Big Sister Association’s mission is to ignite girls’ passion and power to succeed through positive mentoring relationships with women and enrichment programming that support girls' healthy development.  

Community Engagement creates and develops partnerships and connections that can provide physical spaces, enrichment programs, mentorship activities and recruitment events. Community partnerships can provide sponsorship, ticket opportunities, funds, invitations to performances, as well as other opportunities that support Big Sister’s mission in serving girls.  

Building intentional partnerships in the community strengthens Big Sister's presence in the community as well as aligns its mission with supporters. This creates and maintains a healthy network of engaged organizations and participants within our communities that serve as a resource for current and future events.   

 

 

Job Overview & Responsibilities  

Big Sister Association is seeking an individual to work alongside the Director Equity & Community Engagement (DECE) as an intern.  

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual seeking to develop leadership, planning, collaboration, management, and organizational skills in support of a community serving nonprofit organization.  

 

Key responsibilities include:  

Scheduling 

In-Person, virtual, and off-site meetings with potential and current partners 

Shadowing community site visits 

Coordinating/Confirming activity spaces for events and activities 

Stay up to date with scheduled activities and invitations on Eventbrite, Community Calendar 

  

Correspondence/ Data Entry 

Add/Update contacts in Sister Force 

Maintain communication post partner interactions with email or phone call 

Send partnership introduction and information to potential partners 

  

Creativity  

Brainstorm with DECE potential partners, community event, and spaces to host activities and recruitment opportunities for BSA 

Participate in and attend scheduled recruitment events with or in the absence of DECE 

Assist Program Events Manager and DECE in the creation or review of flyers and marketing for events and activities

Additionally, all applicants must be residents of Boston and able to commit to working up to 15 hours a week during January-May.    

 

Job Requirements & Logistics   

Language Skills: Written and oral fluency in English; Fluency in a second or multiple languages is desired but not required.  

Start Date/End Date: The duration of the semester. 

Location: Big Sister Association Offices, 20 Park Plaza, Boston, MA. This role will involve both in-person work at our offices, work in the communities we serve, and remote work.  

Compensation: This position offers an hourly rate of $17/hr with a maximum earning of $7,500 for the employment period, paid by the student’s education institution of enrollment.
