Research Assistant, Digital Policy

The Center for Data Innovation is seeking a research assistant to focus on technology and digital policy issues.

The ideal applicant should be an exceptional writer who is comfortable producing articles and conducting research in a fast-paced environment. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in tech policy, especially AI, robotics, and automation.

The Center for Data Innovation brings an unapologetically pro-innovation perspective to tech policy. The Center is part of the nonprofit, nonpartisan Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the world’s leading think tank for science and technology policy.

This position is based in Washington, D.C.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit a weekly newsletter on technology policy.
  • Interview outside experts for “5 Questions with a Data Innovator” series.
  • Write articles and reports on AI, robotics, and automation.
  • Conduct research for reports, regulatory filings, and op-eds.
  • Provide research support (e.g., drafting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, tracking legislation, checking sources, writing citations, preparing presentations, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in public policy, economics, political science, statistics, information science, computer science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in technology and public policy.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Experience designing presentations and copyediting publications.
  • Proactive and flexible, with an ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Salary and benefits: 

The salary for this position is $50,000 to $70,000, depending on experience. ITIF offers a health benefits package, generous paid vacation, an annual performance-based bonus, and a public transportation benefit.
