Summer Student Intern - Finance

At The N&D® Group, we have been covering local homeowners, drivers, and businesses with personalized insurance policies since 1825. As a locally grown insurance company, we know the region, know the risks, and know the right coverage.

Under the supervision of their manager, the Intern will learn everything there is to know on our daily routines and procedures. You will focus on learning how your department and our organization runs, and can anticipate gaining valuable insight to help you in your future career.

Learning Objectives and Responsibilities

• Overview of Insurance Industry through the lens of Finance Division
• Shadow Finance associates to understand the various workflows within the Division 
• Build technical accounting knowledge through day-to-day activities understanding transactional level details and 
• Generate understanding of fixed assets accounting

Projects/Opportunities

• Enhance Reinsurance Database and look for efficiencies for tracking balances.
• Assist accounts payable/account receivable in daily review of all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval
• Record and reconcile fixed assets in asset & ledger software
• Perform monthly and annual expense analysis for budget & forecast
• Assist in monthly close process including posting entries and reconciliation of account balances

Qualifications:

• High school degree or equivalent; must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Energetic and willing to be part of the team.
• Ability to work on a project, and prioritize other routine tasks as assigned.
