Academic Navigator

Title: Academic Navigator 

Reporting to: Associate Director of Academic Enrichment Programs 

Duration: Spring 2024 semester, 2-10 hours/week in-person, depending on schedule and availability 

Some evening hours required 

Pay: $17.80/hour (no more than 19 hours per week)

The Academic Enrichment Program (AEP) Peer Academic Success Coach will collaborate with The Associate Director of Academic Enrichment Programs to create a collaborative and academic success culture that celebrates the identities of SP scholars, provides exceptional customer service, and fosters an environment that encourages academic success and students’ sense of belonging at LUC. Our AEP Peer Academic Success Coach student workers will assist with laying the foundation for the Scholars Programs legacy. Reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Enrichment Programs, AEP student workers will: 

Provide holistic support to first-year students, with an emphasis in supporting academically at-risk students including consistent monitoring of academic progress and serving as peer role model 

Meet regularly with identified first-year students throughout their first year on campus, with particular emphasis on helping the transition in their first year and to Loyola University Chicago 

Develop relationships with identified students that encourage continuation of long-term academic coaching into the second semester and second year when necessary  

Initiating short-term academic coaching as needed throughout the identified students’ academic career.  

Maintain Rambler Cup point system collection and display board 

Monitor progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, responding to students' questions, concerns, and needs. 

Monitor Academic Enrichment Programs Study Hall and maintains check-in log 

Assist probationary students with adopting success strategies and help them return to good academic standing. 

Conducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own performance and develop academic success plans. 

Assists students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success; works with students to learn strong time management and organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic success. 

Will demonstrate professionalism and provide quality customer service in accordance with the College's values; maintain positive working relationships, make decisions, and solve problems. Maintain confidentiality, positive communication, accurate records, and an organized, safe working environment. Exhibit flexibility, willingness to learn, ability to change, and maintain current technology skills 

Model appropriate behavior and positively represent both Loyola University Chicago and the Academic Enrichment Scholars program 

Other duties as assigned. 

 All AEP Peer Academic Success Coaches will be required to attend mandatory training.
