2412 - Program Assistant, for Latin American and the Carribean

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a 501(c)3 grantmaking foundation that receives an annual Congressional appropriation in excess of $310 million and is governed by a private, bipartisan Board of Directors. This unusual arrangement positions NED to play a unique role as America’s leading foundation for freedom, empowering the institution to be nimble, innovative, and risk-taking in support of democratic activists, civil society organizations, independent media, and the NED family core institutes (the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute, the Center for International Private Enterprise, and the Solidarity Center).

 

We seek a motivated, energetic, organized, and resourceful Program Assistant, LAC who is a mission-oriented team player, and who would be excited to join a fast-paced LAC programs team. This position is based in Washington, D.C.

 

Position Summary:

The Program Assistant will provide day-to-day administrative and programmatic support to the regional program staff. This position reports to the regional Senior Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Ensure logging in of grant proposals.

·         Draft budgets and assist with writing project summaries for NED’s Board of Directors.

·         Provide support for considering and awarding grants to nongovernmental organizations working on democracy assistance programs in the assigned region/country.

·         Support the oversight of grants in the assigned region/country.

·         Assist the Senior Director and staff with general administrative duties, including deadlines and the team schedule.

·         Organize events for visiting grantees and public meetings.

·         Facilitate logistical preparations for team retreats and staff travel.

·         Attend and report on relevant conferences, meetings, and other events.

·         Research information on current political developments in the assigned region/country.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

·         The level of responsibility and independence in assigned tasks will increase with experience.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies, International Affairs, Political Science, History, or a related discipline is required;
  • 0-2 years of administrative and/or programmatic experience;
  • Administrative support experience;
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite.
  • Time living, working, or traveling in Latin America and the Caribbean;
  • Fluency (oral and written) in English and Spanish are required;
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in Spanish;
  • Attention to detail, and ability to multi-task;
  • High degree of organization and initiative;
  • Works well in a team environment;
  • Experience in grant-making and democratic development is desirable;
  • Authorized to work in the United States.;

 

This position is part of the NED Bargaining Unit.

Located in Washington, D.C., the salary range for this role is $ 45,500 – 60,625 USD, plus benefits. The final offer for a successful candidate will be determined by a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, education, and market considerations.
