Learn how the National Geographic Image Collection and Video Archives manages the millions of visual assets generated since 1888. Our role is to preserve and curate material generated by our photographers and filmmakers and make it available for current and future projects. This includes the accession of physical material and adding descriptive data to make it easier to discover. We provide stock footage research for many departments within The Walt Disney Company strategize on usage based on the content we have available.
A Day in the Life…
- How to Plan and Prepare Content for Ingest
- Physical archival material handling and transport
- Digitizing physical archival material (imagery, documentation)
- Ingesting Content into a Digital Platform
- Understanding Best Practices for Curating Digital Assets
- Improving Accessibility of non-managed documentation
What we are looking for…
(Basic Qualifications)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Analytical and organized
- Ability to handle and prioritize simultaneous projects and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment
- Adept at learning new software
(Preferred Qualifications)
- Background in Digital Asset Management
- Experience handling older physical mediums such as film negatives and slides
Required Education:
To be eligible for this internship you must be a junior, senior or a recent graduate (within 6 months of your graduation date) pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science or related field
Additional Details:
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess unrestricted work authorization
- Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
- Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session
- Must be able to work on-site in Washington, DC and provide your own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
- Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are May 2024 – August 2024 Candidate must be available to work 40 hours/week in Eastern Standard time for the duration of the internship.
