Analytics & Data Science Intern

What we need:

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) Analytic and Data Science Summer Internship is designed to provide those interested in pursuing a data driven career with the opportunity to spend the summer working on challenging projects in a professional environment. 

 

Over the 11-week internship, each intern will be supervised by various associates from multiple teams in the analytic space

 

What you'll do:

Sample Project Work (Including Recent Past Years):

  • Research and develop new methodologies of analyzing and visualizing claim data and trends 
  • Determine the magnitude and drivers of behavioral health claims in light of COVID-19 and increased telehealth usage.
  • Explore and predict future high cost claimants 
  • Evaluate potential new programs offered to members and determine the financial ROI 
  • Create a model to identify members with major chronic conditions to support plan and account analytics.
  • Update and provide enhancements for areporting tool leveraging BCBSA data to understand drivers of claim trend compared to other Blue Cross Plans 

 

What you bring:

  • Student currently pursuing coursework in Data Science, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Business, Finance or other related path required
  • Demonstrated interest and aptitude in pursuing a data science, analytics or finance career path
  • Past work or leadership experience preferred (includes on-campus, volunteer, internships and other work)
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, required
  • Ability to present information in an easy to understand format both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
  • Experience with data visualization and/or coding language(s) (SAS, SQL, R, Python, Tableau, etc) desired 
  • Ability to work in the US without sponsorship now, and in the future, required

 

BCBSMA will provide the intern all required equipment to perform the role.
