Director of CA Operations

Location: Science from Scientists, 533 Airport Blvd. Suite 135, Burlingame, CA 94010

This is a hybrid position based out of Burlingame; requires 2 days in the office per week;  Travel by car is somewhat minimal - and involves driving to locations where we have partnerships including San Jose & San Francisco. 

 

About Us

Science from Scientists is a STEM education nonprofit organization. Our Scientist Educators – who are also scientists and engineers – bring hands-on, minds-on STEM Education directly to students primarily in grades 3-8. We serve students of all backgrounds and help to level the playing field for access to STEM education for ALL students in our partner schools.  We provide positive role models, and inspire students to see themselves as the future’s problem solvers and creative thinkers.

 

Overview

Science from Scientists is a growing nonprofit looking for a mission-driven Director of Operations to ensure the day-to-day operations run smoothly and help take our organization to the next level.

 

Primary Responsibilities​

  • Model and contribute to a positive work environment, culture of communication, and engagement
  • Responsible for scientist educator recruitment, hiring, orientation, scheduling, payroll, daily oversight and overall support.
  • Identify, secure, foster and retain school partnerships and ensure positive professional relationships with school leaders
  • Represent the organization in external relationships with stakeholders such as schools, funders/sponsors, volunteers, and community members.
  • Establish and manage budgets in collaboration with the operations team and regional Director of Development.
  • Organize and maintain data appropriately and accurately with ability to report out
  • Initiate and set regional goals and program expansion plans according to the strategic objectives of the organization, and in collaboration with the regional Director of Development.
  • Support US Operations in building and executing on strategic initiatives and special projects

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required 

  • Ability to motivate, engage, support, and lead a team of scientist/STEM educators
  • Demonstrated experience in operations or project management
  • Clear, concise and respectful oral and written communication
  • Both detailed and solutions oriented.
  • Embrace and leverage spreadsheets to understand and organize business
  • Work cooperatively as a member of a cross-regional team; develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Able to work independently, anticipate next steps and adapt to changing work priorities
  • Ability to thoughtfully communicate with and respectfully engage diverse stakeholders around a shared vision for achieving results
  • Exceptional presentation skills, with the ability to present information in a variety of formats and styles and to a variety of audiences
  • Professional skill in organizing, planning, coordinating, and conducting meetings
  • Demonstrated experience in creative problem solving and critical thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to model and encourage creative, out-of-the-box thinking
  • Passion​ ​for​ ​making​ ​science​/STEM ​approachable​ ​to​ ​all,​ ​especially​ ​children
  • Interest​ ​in​ ​working for a ​fast-paced and evolving ​​company
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years management or business client services experience required
  • Bachelor’s​ degree in Business Administration or related field, ​Nonprofit Administration, STEM​ ​field,​ ​or​ ​Education required
  • Professional working efficiency with Google​ Workspace ​(Sheets, Slides, GMail,​ ​Calendar,​ ​and​ ​Drive)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
  • Successfully complete pre-employment background check

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Nonprofit administration experience
  • Professional experience working with remote teams
  • Manage a team of 10+ reports
  • Prior​ ​experience​ ​with​ ​K-12​ ​education​ ​system
  • Prior experience working with a start-up or fast-growing organization
  • Experience in Salesforce or similar CRM

 

Supervision of Others 

This position supervises the local scientist-educator team.
