Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment! Lake Rickabear Day Camp sits on 332 acres of land including a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming, pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating. This position is responsible to further the mission of camp through assisting in the development and delivery of non-competitive archery skills that are safe, fun, and appropriate to campers’ ages and abilities, and ensuring safety and wellbeing of campers following New Jersey Department of Health and Youth Camp Services and Girl Scouts of USA. They are responsible for the supervision and care of campers during designated/ specific activities and facilitating delivery of programs within a unit/small group. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attend all sessions required of position at Pre-Camp Orientation, pre-camp trainings and in-service training.
  • Carries out activities as assigned by Program Director regarding program.
  • Is responsible for the supervision of the archery area. This includes but is not limited to campers and staff, updating signs, procedures, and notifying maintenance of hazards in the area.
  • Maintain instruction ratio of 1 instructor per 10 archers.
  • Effectively communicate and work with a diverse group of staff and campers (background/abilities) to encourage full participation in Girl Scouting.
  • Maintain communication with Unit Leaders, Counselors, and Jr Counselors regarding camper behavior and supervision. Unit Leaders, Counselors, and Jr
  • Counselors will be actively involved with supervisor of campers while instruction is taking place. Archery Instructor’s supervision will be focused on archers on the line.
  • Develops lesson plans for archery session.
  • Responsible for care of equipment, inventory, and recommendations of equipment available or needed.
  • Promotes high staff and camper morale.
  • Keeps records, makes reports and certificates as necessary.
  • May participate in assisting and developing other programs as authorized.
  • Submits seasonal report and evaluation of program activities.
  • In response to COVID-19 outbreak, follows all procedures established in the Camp Communicable Disease Plan.
  • Must be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnights.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Minimum age:18 years of age.
  • Certification in archery (training and certification provided by camp prior to camp season).
  • Ability to schedule and develop program for archery, knowledge of the sport
  • Ability to use sound judgment regarding safety procedures
  • Knowledge of Girl Scouting preferred.
  • Leadership skills and proven instructional experience.
  • Individual must be in physical condition to perform duties.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain current certification of standard First Aid and CPR (training to be provided).

Physical Requirements

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
  • Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions. Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.

Salary Description

$113 per day
