Summer Intern/Communications

About the Zebulon Site

GSK’s Zebulon site is a global supplier of Respiratory and Solid Dose medicines to patients around the globe and the largest Pharmaceutical secondary manufacturing site in North America.  The site is located less than 30 minutes from downtown Raleigh, Wendell, Knightdale, Rocky Mount and Wake Forest. We are within 3-4 hours driving distance of the beautiful Carolina beaches and mountains.

A communications internship will give the successful candidate an opportunity to support the internal communications plan and activities for the site.  Working within our communications team you have the opportunity to produce and deliver high quality materials to support leaders in their cascade of messaging and drive staff engagement. 

As you gain experience you will be expected to deliver a business improvement project relating to the overall site vision and strategy. The role will also require the successful candidate to manage day to day communication channels, create ongoing metrics to measure engagement and support community/charity and site events.

Job Descriptions:

An opportunity exists for talented undergraduates with a passion for communications to play a significant role in supporting internal communications at one of our world-leading pharmaceutical manufacturing sites. Working alongside the Site Communications Lead on-site, you will gain experience of how effective communications contribute to the site’s success.

The role will include:

  • Keeping employees at all levels informed of change, performance and progress at the site.
  • Being involved in delivering the site’s communications strategy.
  • Drafting news stories, case studies and features for internal communications channels from digital to print.
  • Preparing materials from posters to videos.
  • Organising town halls, site conferences and specific campaigns.
  • Writing, designing and giving presentations.
  • Creating clear and consistent messages using multiple communication platforms.
  • Embedding the culture, mindset and behaviours demanded by our values.
  • Sharing and celebrating our successes.
  • Interacting with different levels of the business to ensure the appropriate approach is taken to engage staff across all functions.
  • Utilising a range of digital and physical channels and platforms.

This office-based placement will suit students looking to gain broad experience and exposure to multiple business areas. It is perfect for students looking for experience in communications in a business setting, particularly if they have experience in written and video communication in different settings. Communications is an important function for businesses across the world, therefore this placement gives excellent experience for a variety of future roles and opportunities.

You will be applying the skills you already have learned as well as developing new skills such as team working, effective communication and time management. You will work with, and learn from, an experienced team. They will coach and mentor you during your year to help you achieve your potential.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree (Juniors or Seniors only) in Communications, Business, Sociology, Psychology, English, HR, or a media-related discipline.
  • A creative and outgoing individual with a curious and enquiring mind.
  • Ability to develop rapport and build relationships with people at all levels.
  • Strong verbal, written and visual communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates qualities aligned with our GSK Values and Expectations.
  • Creative flair to design innovative communications for internal employees and external stakeholders.
  • Able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 10-12 week internship (May/June - August).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in business operations and communications.
  • Experience of creating engaging digital and printed communications materials would be beneficial.
  • Experience in the use of digital communications, e.g., Canva, PowerPoint and video editing, would be beneficial.

Benefits:

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.
