Policy Intern Job Description 

Green Street Power Partners (GSPP) is seeking a collaborative and highly driven intern for a part-time internship with our Policy team. As an important contributor in a fast-paced environment, this position requires attention to detail, a proactive approach, and the ability to work within a cross-functional team of professionals. 

The policy intern will assist in research and writing state legislative briefs, regulatory updates, public comments, and other materials related to the Policy Department. Topic areas may include community solar, net metering, distributed generation, interconnection, and the Inflation Reduction Act. The policy intern will report to the Senior Policy Analyst and work alongside the policy department to represent GSPP on trade group calls to advocate for favorable solar regulations and legislation. Projects will primarily focus on assisting with policy research, auditing industry calls, and reviewing/prepping department deliverables. The policy intern will also work closely with other GSPP departments, such as Underwriting, Development and Diligence, to assist in furthering the company’s outreach. The intern should have an interest in renewable energy; strong research and writing skills; and should be comfortable both working independently and providing team support. 

 

Responsibilities may include 

  • Monitor legislative progress and synthesize key legislation  
  • Provide as needed research for the Company’s prospective deals and current portfolio 
  • Assist in the drafting of comment letters, legislative briefs, and regulatory proceedings on pertinent solar issues/dockets 
  • Audit trade group and working group proceedings 
  • Administrative work as needed by the department  

 

Qualifications: 

  • Applicant should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program. Juniors and Seniors. 
  • Preferred Majors: Political Science/Politics, Environmental Studies, Government, Pre-law or related field. These majors are preferred but passion for the subject is always considered 
  • Highly organized: ability to manage and track progress across multiple platforms 
  • Excellent research capabilities; desire to read legislation 
  • Attention to detail to review upcoming and published solar legislation 
  • Experience in policy, solar energy or legal analysis is a plus 
  • Passion for renewable energy  

 

Hours/Compensation  

  • Paid  
  • Three days per week (Tues – Thurs), in-person at GSPP’s Stamford, CT office  
  • The internship will be 8-12 weeks, depending on school schedules  
  • Commuter rail passes provided as needed  
  • Lunch provided daily in the office
