The role:  

Join our Audit Services’ team as a senior external auditor! In this role, you will audit architectural and engineering firm’s to ensure compliance with federal regulations and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) audit and accounting guide. You will also work on a team of internal and external auditors managed by the chief auditor. The chief auditor reports directly to the Oregon Transportation Commission and promotes audit independence, public accountability and transparency. Apply today!

Hybrid remote work is available! The successful candidate will work in the office while training then can collaborate with the hiring manager on a remote work schedule after training is complete.

The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at an internal auditor 2 level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for an internal auditor 1 ($4,672 - $6,901) to apply, as we may consider underfilling the position until the selected candidate meets the minimum qualifications for an internal auditor 2. Underfill training will not exceed three years.

A day in the life:

  • Plan and manage a variety of external audits which includes reviewing architectural and engineering consultants, local governments and nonprofit organizations.
  • Perform assessments of accounting records, financial information and internal controls of the external entity for compliance with federal regulations, state rules and other requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of the assignment including reviewing prior audits, planning the audit, developing the audit program, conducting an entrance conference, testing and developing findings.
  • Prepare working papers, audit reports, memos and letters.
  • Communicate results to internal and external parties.
  • Develop policies, procedure manuals, training guides and compliance programs.
  • Work may require occasional travel including overnight stays.

Minimum qualifications for an internal auditor 2:

5 years of experience performing professional level auditing, investigations, compliance, policy/program, or work closely related to the agency mission.

OR

A bachelor’s degree in business-related field such as business or public administration, finance, economics, computer science, accounting; or a field specific to the agency's mission AND 2 years of experience performing professional level auditing, investigations, compliance, policy/program, or work closely related to the agency mission.

Minimum qualifications for an internal auditor 1 (underfill):

3 years of technical experience providing foundation experience to auditing.

OR

A bachelor's degree in a business-related field such as business or public administration, finance, economics, computer science, accounting; or a field specific to the agency's mission; or any degree demonstrating the capacity for the knowledge and skills.

  • Currently have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or have passed the exam.
  • Accounting experience in the architectural or engineering industry.
  • Experience evaluating complex financial information.
  • Experience effectively communicating program expectations and requirements with groups outside the organization.
  • Experience interpreting and applying regulatory requirements.
  • Experience being flexible while balancing many priorities.
