Intern, NYC Regional Office

BASIC FUNCTION:  

Under the general direction of the Empire State Development (ESD) Regional Director and Deputy Director for New York City, the intern will provide support to the staff of ESD’s NYC Regional Office, one of ten ESD regional offices across the state.  NYC Regional Office staff also serves as staff for the NYC Regional Economic Development Council (NYC REDC). 

 

The NYC REDC is an advisory body formed in 2011 as part of the Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative to develop economic development strategies and priorities for the New York City, consisting of Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens and Richmond counties.  The REDC initiative has created a more efficient, locally driven, economic development model that focuses on cooperation and investing in regional assets to generate opportunity.

 

WORK PERFORMED:

  • Compile project information sheets and budget summaries for faster and efficient system processing. 
  • Take NYC REDC meeting minutes and draft meeting summaries.
  • Review funding applications and assist in drafting project summaries.
  • The intern(s) will also be involved in research, project review, and project management.
  • Attend external meetings with companies and other organizations applying for ESD funding. 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education level required: Actively enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program

 

Knowledge Required: Computer: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Public Policy, Economics, Political Science, Business Administration, Urban Planning or related field
  • Outgoing and personable
  • Comfortable interacting with senior professional staff 
  • Excellent writing and phone skills
  • Must be able and comfortable traveling on public transportation throughout the five boroughs to attend external meetings Authorized to work in the United States
