Downtown Immigration Law Firm seeks Legal Assistant. The Legal Assistant will partner with team members in the preparation, filing, and monitoring of employment-based immigration petitions and applications with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, Department of Labor and Department of State. Our firm has a high-volume caseload with frequent deadlines. Salary offered will be in the low 40s. Candidates contacted for an interview will be asked for references, with a cover letter or statement of interest optional.

 

PRIMARY ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES (under the supervision of an attorney or Sr. Legal Coordinators):

· Answer phone calls, emails and direct clients to appropriate information

· Gather and track important information and documentation from clients

· Organize, exhibits and prepare forms

· Arrange client appointments

· Communicate with clients via email and phone, provide logistical and process information (not legal advice)

· Manage daily mail and upload to database system

· Consistently update information into database(s) and utilize case management tools effectively and efficiently provide reports and data on cases, including but not limited to tracking deadlines and status expiration dates, among other key metrics

· Assist team members with uploading documents, printing and organizing cases for review and filing

· Assist with preparation of compliance files and approval packages

· Other duties as assigned

 

Associates Degree/Bachelors preferred

• Superb organizational, administrative and time management skills

• Ability to work under pressure and prioritize competing tasks to meet deadlines

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent client service and interpersonal skills

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting forms and support letters

• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel

• Ability to learn and use new databases, data management systems, software, and apps

• Ability to analyze information and problem solve

• Ability to use discretion with handling confidential matters

• Ability to professionally interact and collaborate with colleagues at all levels

• Enthusiastic and positive attitude

• Ability to be flexible, proactive, independent, and successful in a fast-paced work environment

• Prior experience in a busy work environment

• Demonstrated interest or experience in immigration / migration law or policy
