Special Education Co-Teacher 
 The position of a Special Education Co-Teacher is available immediately at East Central ISD for the 2023-2024 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is 4:00 pm., February 16, 2024, or until the position is filled.  

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE:  Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.  Assist and support building principals to ensure on-site administration and execution of the district’s educational programs, policies, and regulations and quality instruction for all students in a safe and healthy environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP through the ARD committee process for each student assigned.
  2. Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  3. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect the understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  4. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curriculum as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments.
  5. Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.
  6. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan for instructional activities.
  7. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP.
  8. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.
  9. Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer (s).
  10. Use technology in the teaching/learning process.
  11. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  12. Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP.
  13. Provide direct support to students in a classroom by delivering instruction and ensuring learning through a variety of co-teaching models and strategies.
  14. Design classroom activities and lessons with multiple levels so that all students both meet their IEP goals.
  15. Work collaboratively with the General Education Co-Teacher, the grade-level team, and other staff to plan, share student work, and ensure that instruction is aligned with identified curriculum and standards.
  16. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.  Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education/Certificate:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate – Generalist or Core Subjects EC-6 and Special Education EC-12  


EQUIPMENT USED:  Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [Physical Education Teachers: Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate]  

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non-ambulatory students.  Exposure to biological hazards.

SALARY:  Based on the 2023-2024 Classroom Teacher Salary Scale
