Resident Teaching Assistant Summer Only

Summer Resident Teaching Assistant(RTA) English Language Institute (ELI) (July 16 - August 14, 2024)

Wyoming Seminary is an internationally recognized college preparatory school based in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and is a worldwide leader in teaching language and American culture. The English Language Institute, or ELI, is a 4-week summer camp for international boarding students ages 12-18 who want to learn English in the United States.

ELI Resident Teaching Assistants (RTAs) are fully involved in all aspects of the Summer at Sem English Language Institute. This position, while demanding of time, talents, and energy, is designed as an introduction to the teaching profession, especially in the private boarding school environment, with a combination of responsibilities that include teaching, coaching, and residential life. RTAs work with the English Language Institute participants during the academic day, as well as with students attending the Creative Arts programs during campus events, residential life settings, and daily activities.

RTAs assist a master teacher in the classroom, help supervise and lead organized sports, visual arts offerings, and student activities, along with social and extracurricular events. All RTAs become involved with residential life, sharing daily supervisory responsibilities. RTAs live in dormitory rooms alongside student rooms and assist in supervising the dorms under the guidance of experienced dorm leaders. Each RTA serves as an advisor to a small group of students. Weekend activities are organized both on and off campus. RTAs are expected to attend all weekend trips and activities along with all campus meals. RTAs must be willing and able to work up to seven days a week.

Applications are accepted from undergraduates students who, as a minimum, will have completed their freshman year by the upcoming summer, and recent college graduates. An applicant must have a strong academic record and the maturity and work ethic to succeed in a rigorous and demanding position. Academic background and personal experience are important in the selection of assistants and interns. Also essential is the ability to relate well to others, especially adolescents aged 12-18 in a largely international population.

ELI RTA’s will report for training and orientation on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 and complete their employment duties on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.  Compensation: $2,500 stipend, plus dormitory room on campus at Wyoming Seminary July 15th - August 14th at noon. All meals provided July 16th - August 14th (breakfast only), 2024.
