Digital Content and Social Media Manager

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) seeks a digital content and social media manager with one to three years’ previous professional experience in issue-based communications or advocacy. Reporting to ITIF’s chief communications officer and managing editor, the position will work closely with ITIF’s communications team and policy analysts to create and disseminate digital content that promotes ITIF’s policy research, markets its public events, and expands its social media presence to enhance its reputation and influence as the world’s leading think tank for science and technology policy.

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in technology and innovation issues and may have gained their previous professional experience in journalism, government, or an organization such as a public policy think tank, industry trade association, advocacy group, public relations or public affairs agency.

They will be an excellent writer and communicator, adept at distilling nuance and complexity into sharp, engaging digital content. They will be digitally fluent and thoroughly familiar with both established and emerging social media platforms. And they will have previous experience using digital design tools, social media monitoring services, email marketing platforms, and digital content schedulers.

The position is based in Washington, D.C., with a hybrid schedule allowing employees to work onsite in ITIF’s headquarters part of the time and remotely part of the time.

About ITIF

ITIF has earned its standing as the world’s leading think tank for technology and innovation policy by nimbly producing high-caliber research reports, policy analysis, and commentary, and by staging a rich program of panel discussions and other events, which it hosts in its Washington, D.C. office and other locations. The digital content and social media manager’s primary responsibility is to draw attention to all this activity through social media and email newsletters.

This is an exciting opportunity for a rising digital communications professional to deepen their expertise while helping to influence policy debates on important technology-related issues.

Duties

  • Partner with the communications team and ITIF policy analysts to execute a digital content and social media program that showcases ITIF’s policy publications, podcasts, events, and expertise.
  • Compose social media posts that capture key messages, big ideas, and policy recommendations from ITIF publications in concise, accessible language.
  • Produce short videos, take photographs at ITIF events, and create other digital content to boost social media engagement.
  • Monitor trending tech policy issues and expand ITIF’s social media following on Twitter (X), LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Post, and other emerging platforms by strategically following and engaging with other policy thought leaders and influencers.
  • Work with the communications team to compile ITIF’s widely disseminated weekly email newsletter.
  • Partner with ITIF’s digital communications manager on collateral materials and website updates.
  • Track digital communications performance metrics and provide regular reports for staff as well as ITIF’s board.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ professional experience with demonstrated success planning and executing digital communications tasks.
  • Practical experience and sound judgment using social media to raise the profile of an organization. Previous experience engaging with public policy issues preferred.
  • Outstanding writing and copyediting skills.
  • Hands-on experience with graphic design platforms such as Canva.
  • A personable and collaborative team player with exceptional organizational habits and a proven ability to handle multiple projects at once.
  • Visual storytelling experience, such as producing podcasts and short videos would be a plus.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $60,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience. ITIF offers a health benefits package, generous paid vacation, an annual performance-based bonus, and a public transportation benefit.

Application Process

Please submit a resume and cover letter explaining why you are interested in joining ITIF and how your experience and qualifications align with the goal of enhancing ITIF’s reputation through an ongoing strategic communications program.
