Cleantech Venture Investment Fellow

Job Overview

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center's (MassCEC) Cleantech Venture Investment Fellow will work with the Investments team to accelerate the advancement of technology, job growth and economic development in the Massachusetts Clean Energy Industry.  The Cleantech Venture Investment Fellow will work alongside the Investments team to source, evaluate, complete, and manage equity and venture debt investments in the most promising clean energy start-ups in Massachusetts, and assist with other related programs.

The fellowship program at MassCEC also includes various educational and networking opportunities, including:

  • In-depth overview presentations from division heads;
  • Lunchtime Tech Talks and Brown Bag Presentations;
  • Guided tour of the Wind Technology Testing Center; and
  • Other industry-related conferences and events.

The fellow will work under the supervision of the Investment Associate in close coordination with staff in the Investments division at MassCEC.

 

Duties

  • Help to find, evaluate and track new investment opportunities in clean energy ventures;
  • Support investment staff carrying out technical, financial and commercial due diligence on potential investments;
  • Assist in preparing recommendations for investment to be presented to senior management, the Investments Committee and the Board of Directors;
  • Help to provide support to companies in our investment portfolio;
  • Organize and lead the twice-yearly request for information process to track portfolio companies’ financial, commercial and environmental performance;
  • Research and analyze topics in clean-energy industries to keep investment staff informed of the latest trends;
  • Attend conferences and meetings with entrepreneurs, investors and partners of MassCEC;
  • Keep agendas, schedules, minutes and other administrative tasks as required.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or higher degree with excellent academic standing.

Basic requirements:

  • Clear interests in clean energy markets, technology and venture investing.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Good ability to write, present, and effectively communicate findings.

Outstanding candidates may also have:

  • Past work on venture investments, especially in energy or industrial technology.
  • Financial analysis skills in Excel.
  • Entrepreneurial experience.

 

Salary

  • The fellow will earn $18 per hour and be eligible to work for 40 hours per week.
