Union Settlement is an East Harlem based nonprofit organization founded in 1895. For 128 years, Union Settlement has provided critical and innovative programming to children, youth, families, and older adults. As a pioneer of the settlement house movement, Union Settlement continues to meet the needs of the ever-changing East Harlem community through its core programs. Position: Outreach Specialist                                                                       

Department: Community Childcare Connection

Reports to: Director of C4

Hours: Full-Time

Salary: $50,700                                                                         

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Location: On-site

 Position Summary:

In coordination with the C4 Project Lead and other organizational partners, the Outreach Specialist will develop and execute strategies to raise awareness among eligible families about the availability of childcare assistance and how to apply.   Outreach work will focus particularly on families with young children 0-5 years old. Outreach strategies will include leveraging existing partnerships with family-serving organizations in the project catchment area, building new partnerships and referral pathways, tabling, marketing at community events and through social media. The Outreach Specialist will ensure that families have access to accurate and timely information about childcare benefits, services, and resources in NYC, including how to access these benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other programs at the organization to reach the target population, including those efforts being implemented under the NYC Benefits program.
  • Work with community-based partners within the project catchment area to build awareness about pathways to childcare assistance.
  • Work with the C4 Project Lead to adjust outreach strategies as needed based on overall progress of the program.
  • Develop family-facing outreach materials.
  • Maintain ongoing reporting and communication with assigned supervisor.
  • Maintain basic data and produce reports upon request related to outreach activity, volume, and other key metrics and milestones associated with this work.
  • Regularly attend trainings and stay up to date on programs, services and benefits using current outreach materials, talking points, and other relevant information.
  • Communicate general updates on community questions, concerns, engagement, or other feedback to supervisor in a timely manner; and immediately informing supervisor of any significant flags, barriers or other concerns that require an urgent response.

Qualifications:

  • AA/BA in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in an educational, community, or business setting serving families, children, or adults.
  • Multilingual English/Spanish, English/Chinese.
  • Willing to travel locally to promote program and events.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong writing, analytic, technical, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of principles of family support and case management.
  • Experience with community-based outreach and family-facing engagement.
  • Ability to exercise cultural competency and cultural humility when working with families and community-based partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to closely track basic metrics.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to learn, be flexible and adapt to work assignments in a variety of situations and problem solve.
