Position:                             Mental Health Coordinator 

Department:                     Early Childhood Education

Reports to:                        Director, Early Childhood Education Supportive Services 

Hours:                                 Full-time, 35 hours per week

Salary:                                $75,000.00- $85,000.00

FLSA:                                   Exempt

 

 Position Summary:

The Mental Health Coordinator will direct and manage all mental health and education services for families and children in our Early Childhood Education Program.  The Coordinator will serve as a consultant to other staff, contribute to professional development activities, and develop and implement group and psychoeducational interventions for our participants. The person in this position works collaboratively with our Director, Early Childhood Education Supportive Services, our Mental Health Services Team, Executive Director, Early Childhood Education, and community partners.

Responsibilities:


 

  • Creates a warm and welcoming environment where participants and families feel supported and respected as they pursue their goals.
  • Provides multiculturally-informed direct services, including goal-oriented approaches to initial consultations, intake assessments, single-session therapy, individual counseling, group and relationship counseling, and crisis intervention.
  • Provides case management to support connections to appropriate resources and bridge participants to care.
  • Interacts with families, providers, and referents regularly and recommend additional services that are clinically indicated, as appropriate, with providers in the community to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Ensure that all developmental and social-emotional screenings are completed within four weeks after a child has been enrolled.
  • Provide comprehensive assessment for children with special needs.
  • Schedule classroom observations; allow teachers time to meet and discuss observations and recommendations.
  • Review the developmental screening and Behavior Checklist to identify concerns or delays.
  • Co-facilitate family meetings to discuss developmental concerns (social/emotional, cognitive, physical benchmarks and milestones).
  • Assist in the transition of children receiving mental health services with full parental participation.
  • Coordinate with Union Settlement’s site-based clinics to connect families to family or child therapy. 
  • Coordinate with the Interdisciplinary team on referrals to Early Intervention and CPSE supports.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of treatment plans for children with special needs.
  • Participate in the annual program self-assessment and monitoring visits.  Work closely with the Network providers to plan integrated services for all children.
  • Provide professional development for staff and partners.
  • Submit required program reports in an accurate and timely fashion, and participate in all case management meetings.
  • Monitoring logs and documentation up to date and securely stored, per HIPPA regulation. 
  • Close collaboration and coordination with the mental health department for case coordination and case conferencing.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director, Early Childhood Education Supportive Services.

 

Qualifications:

  • LMSW or LCSW is required. 
  • Demonstrated experience in early childhood education.
  • Clinical experience with presenting concerns prevalent within the student and learner population; examples include identity development, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, disordered eating, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD.
  • Ability to de-escalate participants with behavioral challenges or agitated participants.
  • Experience independently executing presentations, programs, and events for a wide audience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced, challenging, and constantly changing environment.
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral; with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of clients. 
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple, ranging responsibilities.
  • Well-versed in HIPAA regulations, social work ethics, and laws around confidentiality.
