The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services - DHSES - works to protect New Yorkers, their property, and the State's economic well-being from natural and human-caused emergencies and disasters.

DHSES strives to improve readiness and response across the Empire State through planning, training and a multitude of programs and partnerships with government, private sector, and other organizations.

DHSES also coordinates response and recovery efforts of State agencies during emergencies and disasters in support of local government and its constituents.

Duties Description

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Hazard Mitigation in the Disaster Recovery, the Student Assistant will assist the Projects team with various activities including creating reports, process documentation activities, and administrative tasks.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Assist with collection of Subrecipients documentation for awarded project grants.
* Assist with Lean Spreadsheet for tracking contracts, payments and closeouts.
* Produce project management reports, dashboards as well as ad-hoc report requests.
* Work closely with project managers to support project Budgets including project actuals and project budget baselines.
* Work closely with Deputy Chief to assist in State Plan Update to include tracking action items related to the projects.
* Create process documents
* Assist Project Managers with program documentation including organize, write, edit, publish and maintain documentation using appropriate software including MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access)
* Assist with special assignments

Minimum Qualifications:

* Must be a United States citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States.
* Must be 18 years of age or older.
* Must be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State, attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State.
* Must have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a more extended period of time may qualify part-time students) OR currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program.
* Must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or equivalent to a C.
