Editorial Fellow

Regional nonprofit Midstory is seeking a graduate student or recent graduate to serve as a full-time, in-person Editorial Fellow for the summer 2024 term as a part of Midstory's ThinkLab program, beginning in June and ending in August (exact dates TBA).  Interested applicants can send their resume, cover letter and relevant work samples to contact@midstory.org. The deadline for submission is 11:59PM ET, March 24, 2024.

Duties include but are not limited to:

- Pitching: submit weekly pitches of stories and content for website publication.

- Content production: conduct research, interviews and writing for content pitched by you, as well as assisting team members with other content projects.

- Intern edits: provide advice and edits on intern-produced written content as part of publishing workflow to editors.

- Calendar management: update draft and final due dates on team calendar(s).

- Weekly editor check-in: update editors regularly, specifically through written updates, a weekly editorial meeting and messaging/video calls as needed.

The opportunity is full-time, in-person and carries a stipend. The Midstory is seeking graduate students with good writing and people skills, who are looking for a meaningful way to spend their summer. Having training or a background in journalism training is helpful but not necessary.

The position would give graduate students the opportunity to hone in on their editing and writing skills, to work with college students from across the country (including students from schools like Harvard, Northwestern, UChicago and more), to learn the ins and outs of nonprofit work and to spend a summer with a vibrant and young team doing work with communities on the ground.
