LifeMoves Summer Camp Position
Position Title: Nutrition & Wellness Summer Camp Coordinator
Main Location: The Nutrition & Wellness intern will work at one of our family shelters, which are located throughout the Bay Area in either Menlo Park, San Mateo, Daly City, or San Jose.
Time Commitment: 7 Weeks (10 weeks available if required)
Dates: June 20 – August 8
Internship/ Volunteer Program Lead Time Commitment: June 20 – August 8.
Orientation and training for all LifeMoves interns/volunteers (June 20 - June 28)
Shadowing and Summer Camp Preparation for Camp Interns/Volunteers (June 20 – 23)
Summer Camp dates (June 27- July 27)
Camp is from Monday- Wednesday
Camp debriefs and deconstruction process, and data collection (once a week, for 1 hour)
25-28 hours per week
Mondays-Wednesdays: Camp Days
Thursdays: Virtual Check-Ins (at 11am) and site preparation for the following week.
Position Details:
LifeMoves is the largest nonprofit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area dedicated to helping homeless families and individuals across Silicon Valley return to permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
Are you ready learn about the power of good food to help our clients improve their health and wellbeing? Summer interns will be deeply involved in improving the quality of food, nutrition and wellness services provided at LifeMoves locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Focus areas will include USDA meal programs, food pantries, gardening programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assessing nutritional quality of donated food to serve to clients.
Implementing and coordinating with site staff healthy nutrition education activities.
Practice health and food safety in regards to the ServeSafe protocols.
Shopping and Preparing Snacks and Lunch for campers.
Support the Volunteer Leads with daily camp activities- when available.
Connecting staff and clients to nutrition and wellness resources through material development and group programming.
Collect and analyze data around our client’s connection to nutritious food, and their experiences with healthy meal options and food preparation; by creating surveys and facilitating focus groups.
Contributing to the development of strategic and sustainable nutrition and wellness plans.
Submit weekly reports on completed physical wellness & nutrition activities.
Collaborate with LifeMoves’ Marketing team to create a Summer Adventure Camp blog for parents, donors, and supporters
Position Requirements/Preferred Skills:
HS Diploma
Must have your own form of reliable transportation.
Preferred college coursework towards degree in nutrition, public health, health promotion, agriculture, pre-med or related field.
Interest in public health, food and nutrition.
Basic cooking or gardening skills.
Comfortable working in diverse low-income communities
Self-motivated, flexible, team player
Experience working with diverse and low-income populations
Knowledge of nutrition and food security issues
Must be able to show proof of completed COVID-19 Vaccination
Must be able to follow COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures
Learning Outcomes:
Gain understanding of the challenges of the charitable food system, social determinants of health, and role of nutrition in health.
Gain understanding of USDA Child Nutrition Programs as well as hands-on experience in their implementation and monitoring.
Gain experience in public health nutrition programming and curriculum development
Career development opportunities including mentorship and networking opportunities with LifeMoves staff, donors, volunteers, and partner agencies
Compensation: Minimum Wage
